Episode #4970
September 6th, 2017
When psychologist Thomas Armstrong PhD authored The Myth of the ADD Child twenty years ago, he believed that the popular label attention deficit disorder (what we refer to now as ADHD) was a dubious diagnosis that was leading our nation to overmedicate our children. What he didn't know was how ADHD would grow to become the most common behavioral disorder diagnosed in children in the U.S. Dr. Armstrong explores this problematic history of the ADD/ADHD diagnosis, looking at the broader societal reasons for the ADHD epidemic. Dr. Armstrong is featured in Parenting magazine, Family Circle, LHJ and on The Today Show, CBS This Morning, CNN and BBC.
